Military Sleep Method: How to Fall Asleep Fast

The Military Sleep Method has been utilized by soldiers dating back to World War II. What is so special about this method, you may ask? Turns out this method helps individuals get to sleep within two minutes! More recently, it has gained popularity by the public thanks to this TikTok video. Before TikTok, this method gained popularity back in the ’80s with the release of the book, Relax and Win: Championship Performance, by Bud Winter. Despite years of separation, individuals still are looking for ways to fall asleep fast. Could the Military Sleep Method be the answer you’ve been looking for? Let’s dive in.

The Military Sleep Method: Step by Step

1) Start by relaxing your entire face, including your foreheads, eyelids, jaw, and tongue.

2) Drop your shoulders and then your hands, letting them fall to either side of your body.

3) Inhale and exhale to relax your chest.

4) Then, progressively relax your legs, starting with your thighs and then your calves, ankles, and feet.

5) Clear your mind for ten seconds. You might visualize a relaxing scene, like watching the rolling waves at a beach, being in a dark room, or swinging in a hammock looking at clouds in the sky. When thoughts come up, don’t get frustrated; just let them come and go. If visualization doesn’t come easy, try repeating “don’t think” to yourself over and over.

6) Once you have relaxed your body and cleared your mind, you should be able to fall asleep.

The recent increase in popularity of the Military Sleep Method definitely adds to the legitimacy of this practice. • The military fall asleep method is simply an adaptation of a progressive muscle relaxation with visualization that is a standard hypnosis induction method only without hypnotic suggestions. With my insomnia I think this will work wonders.
