I was always the friend who snored. No one would want to be within my vicinity while sleeping it was so bad. When I had a bedtime partner (bless her for dealing with it), she would say I would stop breathing and would attempt to roll me on my side so I could breathe again. Weekends when we were supposed to sleep in would end up with me waking up at 5AM, feeling like I had run a marathon. Going back to sleep was like torture so I would get up then and start my day while my partner slept in alone.
At the time I thought sleep apnea was only something overweight, unhealthy people had. I didn’t think it would affect an average-weight generally healthy person like myself. That all changed after attending a continuing education course on dental sleep medicine. At that class nearly every sign and symptom of sleep apnea they discussed was something I had dealt with. At the conclusion of the course, I sought out a healthcare provider and performed a home-sleep test which confirmed my suspicion; I had mild obstructive sleep apnea.
The next step was treating my apnea. I didn’t want to do CPAP as treatment. I felt it would be extremely uncomfortable and the thought of having a machine do my breathing would make me less than human. And, of course, being in the dental field oral appliance therapy was a natural fit. Dr. Collin Emerick, one of my partners in my general dentistry office also attended that CE class. He treated me with an oral appliance and immediately recognized a passion for treating sleep disorders as a result of my success.
I don’t want to say it was a miracle, but the changes it made in my life were dramatic. I suddenly had enough energy to make it through the day without falling asleep at the dinner table or during a movie. I could now sleep in on the weekends if I wanted. It was no longer painful to blow my nose or swallow in the morning. I had more energy for physical activity and lost 10 pounds. But best of all is the thought that oral appliance therapy saved me from dying an early death and added years to my life. It saved my family and friend’s the grief of losing a loved one early.
That more than anything is what led me to found our company Ohio Sleep Treatment. I want to bring awareness that anyone can have obstructive sleep apnea; there is no “type”. I want people to know there is an alternative to the scary CPAP machine. I want people to know that oral appliance therapy is easy, comfortable and convenient. I want to bring down all the barriers people have that keep them from treating their sleep apnea. I want them to live a longer, healthier life too.

Core Focus
Impacting lives by improving sleep quality one sleep appliance at a time.
Core Values
The culture at Ohio Sleep Treatment is rooted in our Core Values. They are the lifeblood that governs every decision we make.
When our team got together to discuss the values that will guide our company into the future, the needs of our patients was the first topic we discussed at length. Not everyone is a candidate for oral appliance therapy, and we are okay with that. It was clear our mission going forward revolved entirely around the best interest of every person we’re privileged to treat, without exception.
We take sleep seriously. We take patient care more seriously. With many of our staff members having sleep apnea, each person receives the guidance and attention they deserve.
Throughout our organization, expectations, goals and decisions are set with a degree of openness from top to bottom. Trust is vital for the success of any organization and transparency is a vehicle for building that trust.
Our patients demand that candor as well. We vow to remain clear and forthcoming no matter the audience.
Teams are stronger when everyone is willing and able to complete any task at hand. Plainly stated, we are only as strong as our weakest link. We hire, train, and promote based on the value our employees bring to our brand and community. Utility is foundational to the success of the Ohio Sleep Treatment mission.
The healthcare landscape is on the cusp of massive change. We recognize the value of leveraging technology in offering the best possible experience for our patients and team members.
We refuse to become stagnant in an ever-changing marketplace.
At Ohio Sleep Treatment, everyone has a voice. We encourage team members to think for themselves and consider the organization as something we are all responsible for. Accountability and the freedom to make decisions are equally as important within our organization. More so, we value the goals and desires of each patient when plotting their individual course of treatment and we empower the patient to be a part of that decision.
